Professional career and research topics

Alexander S. Kritikos studied economics and political sciences at the University of Munich where he received his degree in 1989 (Diplom-Volkswirt). After a scholarship at the Post-graduate Programme for Applied Microeconomics of the Free University of Berlin, he received his doctoral degree in economics at the Humboldt University, Berlin, in 1996 and his post-doctoral qualification in Economics at the European University Viadrina (Frankfurt/ Oder) in 2003.

Kritikos has been Research Director for Entrepreneurship Research at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) since 2011 and a scientific member of the board since May 2021. Before he was Head of the Department “Innovation, Manufacturing, Service” since 2008 and Vice-President from 2010 to 2011. Since June 2010 as well, he has held the position of Professor for Industrial and Institutional Economics at the University of Potsdam.

Professor Kritikos was appointed an IAB Research Fellow in 2005.

His research interests include entrepreneurship research; empirical industrial and institutional economics; behavioural and experimental economics.

Alexander S. Kritikos has published his research in numerous major journals, such as Applied Economics, Economics Letters, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, the Journal of Economic Psychology, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Kyklos, Small Business Economics and Theory and Decisions, and the Journal for Labour Market Research.
