The European Labour Market Barometer continued to fall in September, remaining below the 100-point mark at 99.3 points in September. This represented a decrease of 0.4 points compared with August. The component that predicts unemployment dropped by 0.4 points to 97.4 points, indicating that unemployment is continuing to rise, while the component that predicts employment slid by 0.5 points month on month to stand at 101.1 points in September. Employment prospects are therefore still in the green, but assessments are becoming more circumspect. The outlook became gloomier in most participating European countries in September. “The prospects for the labour market are weakening right across Europe. The Public Employment Services are seeing the consequences of the difficult economic situation”, reports Enzo Weber, IAB head of forecast.
