The European Labour Market Barometer dropped slightly in January. The leading indicator of the European Network of Public Employment Services and the IAB fell by 0.1 points to 99.9 points compared with the previous month. The employment component regained some ground with an increase of 0.2 points, reaching 100.3 points in January. The component for forecasting unemployment, on the other hand, fell by 0.3 points to 99.5 points, more clearly below the neutral mark of 100 points. ‘The European labour markets still lack a clear direction at the start of the year,’ reports Enzo Weber, IAB head of forecast.
