Dr Hans-Jörg Schmerer

Professional background
Hans-Jörg Schmerer is full Professor of International Economics at the FernUniversität in Hagen. He studied International Economics at the University of Tübingen, where he also wrote his Phd thesis on potential labor market effects of globalization. He spent one semester as a visiting scholar at University of Nottingham. In 2009 he joined the IAB as research assistant. Additionally, since 2013 he held deputy professorships at the Universities of Passau (Chair of International Economics) and Duisburg-Essen (Chair of East Asian Economic Studies) before taking up the permanent W3 professorship in Hagen. His main research centres on the examination of the labour market effects of globalisation.
