Since in the modern and highly digitalised world constant updating one’s qualifications seems inevitable, the importance of lifelong education has been increasing. Despite this global trend, Germany falls behind countries such as Austria, Denmark or Switzerland with respect to the participation of adults in lifelong learning. The potential causes for this phenomenon relate to citizens’ interest in further training and the benefits of it.
