Working parents – and especially mothers – have to juggle the needs of their families and the requirements of their jobs. This is even more of a challenge for single parents. Family members caring for relatives also have to achieve a difficult balancing act.
The IAB’s research focuses on many questions relating to work-life balance. Research topics include the participation of mothers and fathers in the labour force, the division of paid labour and family responsibilities between partners, looking after and caring for relatives, and managing work and family life. Gender-specific pay gaps, family and tax policies, and questions regarding family-friendly working-time arrangements are additional areas of focus.
We have compiled a list of IAB publications and projects related to the subject of work-life balance on a dedicated page.
