In January, there was no change in the European Labour Market Barometer compared with the previous month. The labour market leading indicator of the European Network of Public Employment Services and the IAB stood at 99.3 points, thereby remaining just in negative territory. The European barometer’s employment component improved marginally, rising by 0.1 points to 100.9 points. The outlook therefore continues to be generally positive. The component that predicts unemployment did not change compared with the previous month. It held steady at 97.7 points and thus remained firmly in negative territory. “The prospects for the labour market have not deteriorated further,” reports Enzo Weber, IAB head of forecast. “However, European labour market services are not yet seeing signs of a rebound from the economic slump.”
