Working Beyond Pension Age: Choice, Necessity and the Role of Policy

A growing number of people continue to work beyond the age at which they become eligible for an old-age pension. The ELMI Policy Roundtable will look at why people continue working, whether this reflects genuine choice or financial necessity, and what the consequences are for individuals, employers and society.

Relevant issues include inequalities related to health, occupation, income, gender and migration background, as well as possible effects on other cohorts in the labour market. An important objective of the ELMI Policy Roundtable is to discuss the policy implications of these developments: whether and how governments, pension institutions and employers should facilitate work beyond pension eligibility age while safeguarding adequate retirement income, genuine freedom of choice and equal opportunities.
