The statutory minimum wage: effects, increases and compliance
Abstract
"This IAB statement addresses three applications of the Die Linke parliamentary group for an increase in the statutory minimum wage to EUR 12 per hour (Bundestag printed paper 19/96), a greater degree of control of the minimum wages (Bundestag printed paper 19/1828) and the abolition of exemptions from the statutory minimum wage (Bundestag printed paper 19/1829), and an application of the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen parliamentary group which also calls for an increase in the minimum wage and demands a larger scope for decision-making for the minimum wage commission (Bundestag printed paper 19/975). In this statement, the IAB summarises findings of minimum wage research and looks at both effects on wages and income, and employment effects of the minimum wage. Afterwards, findings on other effects of the minimum wage are discussed. Finally, we discuss the degree of implementation and record-keeping obligations." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
