Segregation of the sexes according to profession
Abstract
"Women and men carry out different occupations and are active on different levels of the hierarchy within occupations. This occupational segregation is a significant and stable characteristic of the labour market that is closely linked to the inequality of the sexes. This chapter deals with the causes of the continuing segregation of the sexes in the world of work and the results this has for men and women. To do this, the author first presents economic and sociological explanatory approaches and explains definitions and concepts of measurement. After that, she summarises the central empirical results and discusses implications for future research and policies." (Publisher's information, © Springer-Verlag)
