Technological change and participation in further training
Abstract
"Lifelong learning is considered a necessity in today's world of work. This rests on the assumption that employees must remain 'fit' in order to cope with the changes in work processes and tools that have ensued in the course of the technological shift. However, less is currently known about the extent to which further training is indeed being used in establishments in order to react to technological change and which groups of employees actually participate in courses during their working day. Using data from the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) adult cohort, we examine in this article the effect that factors relating to the individual, to the structure of professions/establishments and to tasks have on participation in further training."
