Hiring older workers: Employers report positive experiences

Abstract

"According to the IAB Job Vacancy Survey, more than a quarter of employers received job applications by persons aged 50 years and older in the year 2014. Among them, slightly more than half (56%) hired an applicant aged 50 years and older. Most employers reported positive experiences with these newly-hired older workers. Few employers reported special conditions for hiring applicants aged 50 years and older. If they did, they most often demanded 'special knowledge and expertise'. When looking at actual hirings however, professional experience and willingness to work part-time play more important roles." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
