Qualification potential in the German labour supply - also and especially of unemployed and employed persons with a migration background
Abstract
"In most socio-demographic groups, the employment quota of persons with a migration background is lower than that those of those without a migration background. Whereas 77 per cent of the 25- to under 65-year-olds without a migration background are in employment, only 66 per cent of those with a migration background are. While the employment quota of persons of German nationality has risen over the last years, particularly because of the growing participation of women in gainful employment, the employment quota of foreigners has dropped. What is above all troubling is that, where persons with a university-level qualification are concerned, the share of persons who are neither in employment nor unemployed is twice as high for persons with a migration background than it is for persons without a migration background. Here it is necessary to study the reasons for such developments and to design appropriate strategies to increase the participation of these persons in employment." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku) ((en))
