Institutional framework and practice of advisory and placement services : an introduction

Abstract

This introductory section begins by giving an overview of the emergence of advisory and placement entities through institutions of the welfare state. 'Their framework conditions are oriented on the relationships between the rights and duties of the individual and society in relation to the item "social security" which is recognised as necessary.' The authors specify this using the form of a "collected volume" and describe the pressure to adapt that is placed on the labour administration authorities as the conditions of the welfare state change towards activating the unemployed. This is followed by 'welfare state isomorphisms and diverging local practices' of the labour administration as well as the aim of the book to 'illuminate the difference between guidance expectations and the practices of placement and advisory services from a European perspective'. Finally, the authors provide an overview of the individual contributions to this volume. (IAB)
