Investigating regional price differences in Germany

Abstract

"The calculation of regional price indices demands much data. If an own survey in the regions themselves is not possible to compile the information, it is necessary to search for other sources provided by third persons. In this case, the quality of the data has to be estimated. A study of the Federal Institute for Research of Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development presented a regional price index for Germany in 2009. This was the first time since 1942 that regional price differences for the whole federal territory are available. The article shows the basic assumptions and discusses the methodological steps. Furthermore, it presents the results for Germany and interprets them." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
