Zur Stabilität des räumlichen Strukturwandels

Abstract

"Main topics of the following analysis are the development of spatial structure and the question whether the economic disparities between agglomerations and peripheral areas will con- or diverge. Usually, economic disparities are measured by per capita income. Because of the relationship between income growth and employment change, a separate analysis of both components seems to be more appropriate. In this study we begin with regional change of employment by analysing time-series from 1976 to 1996. Due to this long period the data is constrained to the old 'FRG.
The central tendencies of spatial structural change - on the one side (relative) gains of urban fringe and peripheral areas, on the other side (relative) losses of agglomerations and their centers - prove to be extremely stable on the level of spatial categories. Somewhat weaker is the stability of individual regions. Especially the relative dynamics of southern regions have systematically decreased since mid of the 80ths.
On the whole, no fundamental change of direction has taken place. As far as there are deviations from the development trends, they rather indicate further spatial deconcentration in disfavor of agglomerations." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
