Employment security and efficiency

Abstract

"The authors start the paper by characterizing the economically significant main components of dismissal protection and listing the important arguments of the current debate. Subsequently, they focus on four aspects that have played a prominent role in the current debate: employment, productivity, the flexibility of the labor market, and the insider-outsider problem. Some of their assumptions will be exemplified by referring to the situation in the Federal Republic of Germany, where employment protection is said to be high compared to other European countries and in particular to the United States."
