Old and new labour migration to Germany from Eastern Europe

Abstract

"The paper firstly summarises post-war migration to Germany in order to put migration patterns since 1989 in context. Secondly, we outline the current migration patterns and the employment of foreigners, concentrating on the various programs through which migrant workers are arriving in Germany. Thirdly, the implications of using worker programs as a substitute for both illegal imigration and a comprehensive immigration policy are explored for Germany and for the countries that the come from."
