The training behaviour of western German companies in 1995 : results of the IAB establishment panel
Abstract
"The tense situation on the training place market induced the IAB to place the emphasis of the survey in the IAB establishment panel for western Germany in 1995 on the training behaviour of companies. This employer survey, which has been carried out by Infratest for the IAB every year since 1993 and whose data is representative for 1.6 million enterprises with 29 million employees, makes it possible to show the entire training performance of industry and administration, differentiated according to the field of business and the size of the enterprise. The development of training activities since 1993 showed that it were in particular the large companies that reduced to an even greater extent the number of training places as employment, whereas small enterprises clearly expanded their training activities at almost constant employment levels. According to the details given by the companies, no substantial change in training behaviour is to be expected in the near future. The IAB establishment panel also provides information which companies concluded new training contracts in 1995 and where these new training contracts were cancelled prematurely. In addition it was ascertained which companies had unfilled training places, where trainees successfully completed their training and were then taken on permanently, and which enterprises offer measures to keep on in the longer-term the specialized staff they had trained themselves."
