The labour market in the construction sector 2012 : Sectoral Report
Abstract
"This report provides information about the important indices of the labour market in the construction industry. Here not only the status in 2012 is described, but - as far as data is available - the development over the last ten years is also dealt with. On account of the changeover of the employment statistics of the Federal Employment Agency to the new classifications of occupations of 2010 (KldB 2010) assertions can however only be made on certain topics in this report on the basis of the data from the year 2011. On account of the missing data on employment, no unemployment quotas can be established for 2012 as the latter are calculated on the basis of the unemployed and employees subject to social security contributions. The report begins with an overview of the development of persons in gainful employment. On account of its particular significance for the building sector, self-employment is then taken into consideration. After this, an analysis of employment subject to social security contributions forms the central point of the first chapter. Statements on the development of gross wages over the last decade complete the analysis of employment subject to social security contributions. The second chapter of this report deals with the demand for labour in the construction sector. After a brief description of the current macroeconomic job vacancies, the focus turns to the situation and development of the working positions registered. Along with a consideration according to branch of the economy, attention is then paid to the average vacancy time in the construction occupations, their distribution across the economic branches that provide the information, as well as their development according to region. After this, Chapter 3 deals with the other side of the market: the supply of labour and qualified labour, subdivided into the unemployed, the training market, and the situation at German institutions of higher education. And lastly, the potential offered by young persons in the academic occupations of the construction industry is outlined. Here those beginning their studies, those who have completed their studies, and those who have discontinued their studies are dealt with." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku)
