Eligibility and short employment periods: How long does one have to work for unemployment benefits?

Abstract

"In Germany, to qualify for unemployment benefits, one usually has to have worked 12 out of 24 months before losing a job. Thus, while paying unemployment insurance contributions, for individuals with short employment periods it might prove difficult to qualify for such benefits. The paper discusses current regulations in Germany and estimates short-term effects of changes in regulations." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
