Life situations when drawing benefits under Book II of the Social Code

Abstract

"This in-depth chapter deals with aspects of need of people in North Rhine-Westphalia who are dependent upon benefits under Basic Income Support for job-seekers. ... Chapter VI.2 illustrates the connection between the structures of dependency that are only changing slowly and the dynamics of the emergence and overcoming of dependency in various different life situations. Chapter VI.3 describes from a longitudinal perspective the overcoming of need and the duration of benefit receipt in its dependency on life and family situations of the household in need. Here, among other things, we deal with the issue of how stable exits from benefit receipt and/or how high the return quotas are. In addition to this, we take a look at situations where people begin working after having received benefits according to Book II of the Social Code (SGB II). Chapter VI.4 illustrates the previous employment and benefit biographies of those receiving benefits. Chapter VI.5 contrasts those eligible to benefits in consolidated long-term receipt with persons in short-term receipt. Finally VI.6 evaluates needs, benefits and household incomes together with the housing situation as indicators of the living situation of the needy household in Basic Income Support."
