Geocoding to create survey frames
Abstract
The authors report on their experiences in using address datasets of the US Postal Service to generate samples for surveys. They describe the geocoding used for this purpose as a two-stage process. In the first step, the geographic coordinates are ascertained for each address. After that, the addresses are matched to census geography by means of the geographic coordinates. For the future, the authors forecast that geocoding will become more important, not only for generating random samples but also for collecting and analysing data. (IAB)
