Abstract

"Since the mid-2000s, publicly funded childcare for children under the age of three has been expanded substantially in Germany. But to what extent does improved access to childcare affect mothers’ labor market trajectories after the birth of their first child? An analysis of regional differences in the expansion of childcare shows how mothers’ labor market participation and earnings change around the birth of their first child."
