Employment of elderly: Those who work besides retirement rarely change occupations

Abstract

"The working population beyond retirement age has been increasing in Germany for years. Given demographic change, this is a positive trend. However, not all older people are willing or able to work until the statutory retirement age and beyond. In this IAB Short Policy Report, we use data from the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) to examine when different occupational groups retire and which personal and occupational characteristics determine whether someone continues to work beyond retirement age."
