Abstract

With the introduction of the federal minimum wage in Germany comes a high demand for up-to-date, high-quality and comprehensive data to evaluate the effects of the minimum wage. Minimum wage effects can be quite complex and the data should be able to reveal all those details. Otherwise, important effects might be ignored by the public and scientific debate. The goal of this project is to develop and publish a report on the labor market after the introduction of the minimum wage – the so called “Arbeitsmarktspiegel”. This report uses aggregated data to illustrate the development of several labor market indicators before and after the introduction of the minimum wage. The indicators can be roughly divided into stocks, in- and outflows and transitions between different labor market status. The labor market status incorporates information on employment, unemployment and benefit payments. It also focuses on important subgroups of the population deserving particular attention. This might be due to a strong affectedness by the minimum wage or special regulation for the respective subgroup. The “Arbeitsmarktspiegel” is intended as a complement to the regular publications by the statistical office of the Federal Employment Agency.
