Activation of unemployed in a comparative perspective

Abstract
Activation has become a major topic in European and US social and labour market policies, as increasing emphasis is put on integrating wider segments of the working-age population into the labour market. The process of activation and its instruments are assesed from an economic and societal perspective. A focus is set on individal action plans as an instrument of activation and integration and their outcomes in selected EU countries.
