Abstract

The long term goal of the project is the realisation of a classification of secondary schools (Haupt-, Real und Gesamtschulen) with regard to their basic conditions for the transition of graduates into the labour and training markets. The feasibility study is aimed to discover if this goal can be reached considering the state of the art in social sciences. The project team chose an approach that has been tested several times in the IAB. This approach combines regressions with cluster analysis. Problems with the data and diverging institutional designs in the Länder are identified as main possible obstacles for a smooth realisation. But in case of a generally positive result of the feasibility study the responsible units in the BA will soon have a classification of schools at their disposal that allows for the establishment of a benchmarking and (indirectly) a controlling system for measures of preventive career guidance in schools.
