lidA -leben in der Arbeit. German Cohort Study on Work, Age and Health

Project duration: 01.04.2009 to 31.03.2017

Abstract

“lidA - leben in der Arbeit. German Cohort Study on Work, Age and Health” is a longitudinal study which examines the effects of work on older employees’ health. 6,600 employees within the baby boomer cohorts 1959 and 1965 are interviewed using computer assisted personal interviews (CAPI). The first wave of lidA was conducted in spring 2011, the second wave will be conducted in 2013. The survey results can be linked to the Integrated Employment Biographies (IEB) of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), and to health insurance data. Furthermore, a so-called "Work Health Matrix" is created, by merging aggregated health data (> 300,000 individuals per cohort) with aggregated individual job exposure data. The chosen study design allows to examine the medium-and long-term influence of work-related factors on health of older workers (and vice versa), and the corresponding changes over time between the cohorts.
