Not only people from different countries or specialist fields and research areas, but also people with and without disabilities work together at IAB. This makes the institute a diverse and versatile place of work. The Special Needs Representative is in place to appropriately represent the interests of employees with severe disabilities and those of equally treated employees with disabilities. It consists of an ombudsperson and their representative.
The responsibilities of the Special Needs Representative are as manifold as the needs of disabled employees. Among others, they have the following responsibilities:
- They monitor the observance of the severely disabled quota. The legal basis is Book Nine of the German Social Code (SGB III).
- They take care that any other laws, regulations, collective agreements, employment or service agreements and administrative orders are also observed to the benefit of (severely) disabled employees.
- They ensure that people with disabilities applying to IAB have no disadvantage as compared to applicants without disabilities. For example, if there is at least one person with severe disabilities taking part in an application procedure, the Special Needs Representative strives to participate in all job interviews during the application procedure.
- They support a barrier-free working environment at IAB. This includes physical alterations as well as workplace equipment tailored to the requirements of severely disabled employees.
- They give advice to severely disabled employees and support them with applications, for example, when applying for the determination of their disability.
Moreover, the Special Needs Representative regularly meets with the IAB Directorate as well as the departments of the Federal Employment Agency in order to optimally promote the interests of severely disabled employees.
