The success of start-ups from unemployment - sometimes one indicator is not enough
Abstract
Over the last two decades the support of start-up businesses by the unemployed has played a considerable role in labour market policy measures. These included, firstly, the bridging allowance (Überbrückungsgeld) and later the start-up subsidy for setting up one's livelihood (Existenzgründungszuschuss) (Me Inc./Ich-AG) and the start-up subsidy (Gründungszuschuss). In this article, the authors discuss the key indicators for the success of a business. Just continuing to survive does not say anything about the economic success of the start-up. 'What is vital is the living situation of the persons receiving the support, especially the income of the household. Depending on the context in which the start-up comes about, the contributions of the person supported to the overall income of the household can be very different. Women tend to engage in self-employment to earn additional income. (IAB)
