Economy 4.0 and its labour market and economic impacts : Scenario calculations in line with the fifth wave of the BIBB-IAB qualification and occupational field projections

Abstract

"This research report presents the third model-based estimation of the effects of Economy 4.0 on the German labour market as well as on the nation's economy as a whole. The methodology is based on Wolter et al. 2016 and Wolter et al. 2015. The report adjusts underlying assumptions based on the newest insights and makes methodological revisions. Operating under the assumption that Germany will play a pioneering role in the implementation of digitalisation, it can be seen that the possible future work environments 'Economy 4.0' and the 'QuBe Basic Projection' differ considerably in terms of their sectoral, occupational and requirement structure. Nevertheless, the overall number of job losses is relatively minor, due to the fact that job losses will be offset by the new ones created by digitalisation." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
