Linking up the company data of various data producers : the project "Combined company data for Germany"

Abstract

"Economic data are continually being gathered and processed by the Federal and State Statistical Offices, the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) of the Federal Employment Agency (BA) as well as the German Federal Bank. Many of these data are available to researchers via institutions that belong to the said organization. However a linking of these data collections has not yet been carried out over and above the boundaries of the said data producers. As this would appear to be very worthwhile for various reasons, the project 'Combine company data for Germany (Kombinierte Firmendaten für Deutschland)' (KombiFiD) was set up. The aim of this project - supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research - is to clarify, within the framework of a feasibility study, to what extent company and in-house data from the statistical offices can be linked to data of the Institute for Employment Research and the German Federal Bank at the level of the company and what additional potential for analysis and information would ensue from this. Furthermore, the project investigates whether such data linkage would open up possibilities for a further unburdening of the industry from its duty to provide information.
