Qualification-specific unemployment quotas
Abstract
"In Germany, unemployment rates have decreased in the fourth consecutive year in 2017. The total rate by qualifications is 5.8 percent and thus reached the lowest level since the German reunification. The risk of unemployment heavily depends on the qualification. The lower the qualification, the more difficult the position on the labour market is. Persons without a vocational qualification are particularly affected by unemployment. In 2017, 17.9 percent in this group all over Germany had no job. The perspective for academics on the Germany-wide labour market continues to be very good. The unemployment rate is very low (2.3 %). The employment situation further improved for persons with professional training as well. Their unemployment rate is currently 3.9 percent; 0.3 percentage points less than in 2016. Significant differences exist between the unemployment rates in Eastern and Western Germany, but the east could further reduce the backlog." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
