Families receiving means-tested unemployment benefits : Children profit from parents┐ active labor market program participation

Abstract

"This study analyzes subsidized employment, further vocational training and One-Euro-Job participation by non-employed parents of 16 - 17 year old children in Germany. Findings are that children whose parents were in subsidized employment or further vocational training have significantly higher probabilities of later apprenticeship training and regular employment at ages 19 - 24. However, effects of parents' One-Euro-Job participation are smaller and significant only for children whose parents had very little recent employment experience."
