Zur Bedeutung des Berufs für Arbeitsplatzwechsel

Abstract

"The modern labour market is characterized by technological change that involves development in working conditions, organizational structures and the occupational landscape. These changes in turn have consequences for individual career and earning opportunities. Overall, this change manifests as rising wage inequality and increasing social stratification, which we observe in many industrialized nations. What is the role of occupations? They are not just a description of wage-earning jobs. Rather, they structure the match between individual qualifications and the requirements of jobs. Occupations may e.g. reduce information asymmetries by signalling to a potential employer which competencies a qualified applicant has. This information reduces the transaction costs of the job search. At the same time, however, it hinders occupational mobility. This dissertation is concerned with the role of occupations when changing jobs - a situation, which is characterized by incomplete information of actors, especially in case of a concurrent change of occupations."
