Lowest number of unemployed per vacancy over the last 25 years

Abstract

"We analyze the hiring process in the German labour market in descriptive time series that cover the last 25 years. In boom periods, such as in the recent years, the labour market became tight from the employers' perspective. In fall 2017, we only observed two registered unemployed per vacancy, which is the lowest rate in our period of analysis. This labour market tightness is also reflected by long vacancy durations and employers reporting intensified search efforts and increased difficulties to find suitable applicants."
