Does a persistent "precariat" exist? : precarious employment, its form and significance in the life course and the consequences for the structuring of social inequality

Abstract

"After two decades of debate on the precariat, a longitudinal measurement of the extent of precarious employment and precarious living situations in Germany is being presented for the first time. The approach is based on a multidimensional index and analyses of sequence patterns of life and career courses based on the SOEP (Socioeconomic Panel) and answers the question of the extent to which a persistent precariat has indeed established itself in Germany."
