Arbeitsmarktintegration von Migranten

Abstract

"The integration of persons with a migration background is one of the central research areas of modern social analysis. Along with the educational sector, the labour market is one of the key areas in which the success or failure of the integration of immigrants into a receiving society is decisive.
Contrary to the widespread procedure of seeing migrants as deficient actors and of putting their integration difficulties into the forefront, the perspective in this book has been readjusted and concentrates on the potential that immigration offers. Migration - and the cultural diversity induced by it - means that people with new ideas, experiences and strategies for solving problems are coming to Germany. If one knows how to harness this potential within economic processes then immigration can stimulate economic growth and thus send out positive impulses to the labour market. Moreover, regular intercultural contacts reduce discrimination and prejudices and create an open and tolerant social climate - a crucial locational factor in the global competition for skilled and talented workers.
The results confirm the hypotheses: The chances of finding a job are better in local labour markets with a high level of cultural diversity, and that applies to young people from both Germany and abroad. But at the same time it also became clear that there is a noticeable difference between German towns and regions as regards the relative significance of foreign nationals for economic performance as well as the way that the potential of cultural diversity is harnessed. As the increasing internationalisation of labour markets is an important factor in future economic developments, it is a question of better utilizing the potential of cultural diversity."
