Field theoretical perspectives

Abstract

"The field theory perspective emphasises that the integration of Europe is a socially demanding process that does not only involve political fields. Within the interdisciplinary choir of European research, it takes on a genuinely sociological position. On account of their orientation towards the theory of power, field analyses have a special interest in the complex social inequalities of power beyond the obvious power of decision-making. They are interested in the interconnectedness of political processes at the centre of political institutions with reproduction processes in apparently remote areas of social life. Analyses of the genesis of a European habitus show how the apparently technocratic Eurocracy makes its contribution to the reproduction of national inequalities and to the creation of a new European elite whose capital and/or habitus can be utilised in many ways."
