Effects of digitisation and the demographic change on low-skilled employees

Abstract

"In this contribution, we address the question of what consequences the digital transformation on the one hand and the demographic change on the other hand might have for the employment opportunities of low-skilled employees. To this end, we initially look at the development of qualification-specific unemployment since 1975, then address the technological potentials to have low-qualified work performed by computers and computer-driven machines, report on the employment opportunities arising for low-skilled employees from the usage of digital technologies, and finally complete the presentation with the corresponding conclusions regarding the specific qualification and education requirements for low-skilled employees."
