Employment take-up of welfare benefit recipients : Sustainable labour market integration remains difficult

Abstract

"Unemployed unemployment benefit II recipients take up approximately one million employment relationships subject to social security contributions per year. These are often jobs for unskilled workeres in the low-wage sector. Almost half of the jobs last for less than six months, two fifths at least twelve months. Employment stability is determined by individual, job and firm characteristics. Remaining permanently employed is particularly difficult for those benefits recipients who have not completed their vocational training. Professionally oriented activities with higher wages in larger companies are significantly more stable than other jobs." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
