Abstract

"In preparation for the Annual Report 2017/18 of the German Council of Economic Experts, the IAB was asked to provide its expertise about maintaining employability in times of digital change. The IAB commented in Autumn 2017 on the effects of digitalisation on the world of work and the future demands on the labour market connected to this as well as on the role of education and further training in securing employability. In doing so, the IAB elaborated on the significance of company-provided and publicly subsidized further training, as well as on the prerequisites and possible instruments necessary to ensure that adequate offers of further training exist.
