Multiple job holding in Germany: More and more people are employed in a second job

Abstract

"More than three million people in Germany work in more than one job. Since 2003, the number and proportion of people with a second job has more than doubled. According to a detailed administrative data set called Employment History, women and middle-aged groups are more likely than average to have a secondary job. Multiple job holders are often part-timers and are most likely to have principal jobs which fall into the lowest pay category. The overall development on the German labour market regarding employment, wages, part-time as well as legislative changes clearly supported the trend for secondary jobs."
