Immigration and the labour market : A long-term projection of the effect of immigration on the labour supply in Germany
Abstract
"Demographic change and the contraction in the number of persons available for work will shape the German labour market decidedly over the next years. The current study calculates that the potential number of persons available for work - that is, not taking immigration into account and at unchanged employment rates - will sink by roughly 15 million employees, namely by a third, between 2014 und 2050. On the other hand, the requirement for labour will hardly drop. Against this background, the study takes a closer look at two factors that can have a decisive effect on the supply of labour: labour participation and immigration." (Publisher's imprint, IAB-Doku)
