Incomes of employees holding a Bachelor or another type of tertiary degree in comparison : as workers get older, higher degrees do increasingly pay off

Abstract

"As part of the Bologna Process, since the early 2000s the traditional German university degrees Diploma and Magister were replaced by a two-tiered degree system with Bachelor's and consecutive Master's degrees. This raised the question, what type of labour market position the graduates holding these new degree types will obtain. To tackle this question, the analyses in this report compare the long-term development of the incomes of 25- to 34 year old employees that hold different types of degrees (university and other/vocational). These analyses show that early on the incomes of employees holding different types of degrees are by and large comparable. However, as employees get older, higher degrees do increasingly pay off."
