Education over the life course: the National Educational Panel Study with regard to further occupational training

Abstract

"In our society, education has become a lifelong process. For adults, it is today to a special degree necessary to participate in further occupational training. The National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) observes educational process in their relevant surroundings from earliest childhood to late adulthood. Data from six initial cohorts are provided with a total sample of 60,000 target persons. Exemplary analyses of the data of NEPS adult cohorts show the high participation of adults in Germany specifically in non-formal and informal offers of further education. At the same time, it becomes apparent that there is a strong link between the intensity of further education and the previous level of education." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
