Social inclusion and basic income support - SGB II as a benefit system and living situation
Abstract
"The chapter is devoted to three main issues relating to social inclusion at the level of basic income support. Individual patterns of drawing benefits over time are categorised and employment constellations of couples observed, both before and after benefit receipt. The effect of changing one's place of work on employed persons drawing benefits is examined: usually changing one's place of work is linked to a higher hourly wage but not every change of job leads to stable employment. In addition, the effects of SGB II (Book II of the Social Code) on inclusion are also taken into account. Those drawing benefits suffer from a gap in social inclusion, even if this appears to have become smaller over the last few years. Moreover, analyses of qualitative longitudinal data show that, despite this trend, partial groups whose living conditions have deteriorated and who continue to experience great psychological strain still exist."
