An assessment of the effects of the integration of refugees : a brief expert report for the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS)

Abstract

"This research project analyses the macroeconomic effects of increased efforts to integrate refugees into the German labour market. The analyses are based on a macroeconomic simulation model that was developed by the DIW (the German Institute for Economic Research) Berlin and the IAB. In this model, we simulate the integration into the labour market along with both the macroeconomic and fiscal effects of those refugees, who immigrated to Germany in 2015, up to the year 2030. Labour market integration as well as the effects of investments in education and knowledge of the German language are estimated on the basis of the migration sample of the IAB and the Socioeconomic Panel (SOEP).
