Forced migration and the labour market: will integration succeed?

Abstract

"According to estimates, near on 900,000 people fled to Germany in 2015. For 2016, it is estimated that roughly 300,000 more may be added. The opportunities and conditions for the integration into society of people who have fled from their home countries are being discussed everywhere. A central role is conferred on participation in the local labour market. If refugees manage to find an adequate occupation, they in doing so not only secure their own livelihood but also contribute to the common good. This article provides tentative answers to the question of how the labour market will cope with this forced migration and whether the people who have fled from their home countries can be integrated into the labour market in a sustainable and successful way. To do this, research results from the Institute for Employment Research will be presented." (Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)
